Mission

The APR is a student published, student edited project built as a unique online resource that fosters interdisciplinary academic exploration of contemporary Asia. The APR has grown from an online publication to include tools and resources to laterally and vertically connect students, faculty and interested community members with each other. By encompassing prospective and current students of all levels with each other, as well as with former students already working in Asia, the APR laterally connects students, linking the individual student experience along a complete academic timeline. Vertically, the APR will connect students to faculty and scholars already engaged in Asia Pacific issues, to conferences and scholarship in Canada and overseas, to programmes in other universities, as well as to governmental and non-governmental organisations.

Rather than simply a website, the APR is built to be a community centre - growing from the experience and knowledge of the community as a whole. The original format of the website was a reflection of the vision of the founding editors, but the trajectory of the APR, and what it will come to hold as a repository of information, will be built by sustained interaction with the academic community and beyond.

Explicitly set up to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and to debate issues facing contemporary Asia, the APR will be the central hub in a networked community that will not only deepen the academic exploration of issues and challenges facing Asia today, but also act as a resource for students seeking career paths in Asia.
